SHOEdesignmakers is founded by museum curator Inge Specht and creative entrepreneur Karin Janssen, offering a platform to independent shoe designers, shoemakers and shoe labels to promote their company and sell their footwear.
Inge Specht (l) started her career in fashion before opting to train as a textile conservator. After having worked as a conservator for five years, she got a job at the Dutch Leather and Shoe Museum. She started as a conservator but after a short while continued as a curator. For several years she’s also been responsible for collection-related PR.
The common theme in her life is the combination of creativity, flexibility and the urge to learn new skills. Connecting people is what makes her happy, that’s why she immediately said yes to Karin’s idea of setting up SHOEdesignmakers. Through this platform she would not only be able to provide a stage to all those wonderful designers and shoemakers out there but also reinforce her position as a curator at the Shoe Museum – a great opportunity for everybody involved!
Karin Janssen (r) is a designer and creative entrepreneur. She’s the co-founder of design agency ‘En-i, communicatie-concepten’, and developer of creative concepts, from the initial idea to a finished product or event.
Karin’s strong need to combine both design and craft, drew her to attend a course on artisan shoemaking at the Dutch Shoe Academy. This resulted in various shoe designs and her own shoe label LOEXS, with exclusive handmade wooden clogs. To fulfill her aspiration to explore, create and innovate, Karin started A SHOE CAN BE together with René van den Berg in 2013.
From 2008 Karin has been working as a freelance designer. Her commercial projects vary from graphic design to shoe (related) design.
