Rani Bageria’s footwear
For this introduction post Rani Bageria asked us to focus on her footwear mainly, which of course we will do because that’s what SHOEdesignmakers stands for. But honestly, we would do her a great injustice if we didn’t mention her luxury knitwear, because that’s an essential part of her work ever since she graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp.
One of her inspirations is the nomadic life and that’s no big surprise if you know her biography. Rani was born in 1982 as the daughter of an Indian father and an Austrian mother. The family was living in Tirol but during the school holidays Rani spent a lot of time with her grandparents in Germany as well with her family in India. After she graduated from Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Rani worked one year as a knitwear designer for Chloé in Paris before returning to Austria where she launched her own fashion label in 2013.
Pedestals of the body
Rani always had a big fascination for leather and craft as well as fashion. In footwear all these aspects come together but at the same time she considers shoes as the pedestals of the human body: they have a huge impact on the attitude or posture that one wants to express.
When studying fashion, Rani collaborated with a skilled Belgian shoemaker. The prototypes he produced, turned out to be so good that it inspired Rani to keep on designing footwear. Ever since she has launched her footwear line, she has been working with the Italian footwear industry where her designs are manufactured with all care and attention they deserve.
